Elham Hadian
(b. 1984)
Lives and works in Vienna
Elham Hadian is a contemporary multimedia artist whose practice explores the interrelation of memory, performativity, and political structures. Working primarily with video, photography, and installation, Hadian investigates how personal and collective memory shape identity and resistance, especially within the context of Iranian society. Her work is marked by a poetic visual language that unfolds through temporality, spatial composition, and subtle narrative gestures. The installative moment is central to her practice, offering immersive environments where viewers are invited to reflect on the tension between documentation and representation.
Originally from Iran, Hadian holds a BA in Painting from Alzahra University in Tehran and is continuing her studies in Video and Video Installation at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Her installations often create poetic, meditative environments where absence, silence, and layered imagery evoke the persistence of memory and the fragility of agency. Through a practice that merges documentary sensibilities with performativity strategies, she challenges conventional images of achievement by making visible the resilience embedded in vulnerability, resistance, and remembrance.
