Magdalena Maller’s painting emerges from accumulation rather than narration, grounding itself in a practice of collecting words, images, and fragments of experience encountered directly or absorbed indirectly. Working with egg tempera, oil, pigment, and rabbit-skin glue—often on stitched or reassembled canvases—she treats painting as a physical and temporal process where surfaces are built, interrupted, covered, and reopened. Her dense, condensed scenes bring violence, intimacy, and memory into tension, creating an alert, nocturnal imagery where fragility and force coexist, and tenderness is never far from threat. Maller has been studying painting and graphics at the Art University Linz since 2020. Her academic development includes an Erasmus stay at the Beaux-Arts de Marseille from 2023 to 2024. Prior to her artistic training, she completed a forest engineering degree at the Hochschule Weihenstephan-Triesdorf between 2016 and 2021.
