OBJECTS AGAINST MEMORIES

VIKTOR FREŠO

05 Jun - 24 Jul 2025

In popular culture the saying goes “collect memories not things.”
But what if things hold and reflect our memories strongest?

We are delighted to announce Viktor Frešo first solo exhibition at Barvinskyi Art Gallery. Viktor Frešo (b. 1974) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. His work offers a profound reflection on the current state of society and culture, consistently pushing the boundaries of artistic expression. He has been a prominent force in the art scene of Slovakia since 2000.

Frešo's work is often characterized by a critical yet humorous and playful spirit. His practice navigates the counterpoint between ego and self-irony, exploring direct visual tools and immediate creative acts.

For the exhibition Memories against Objects he delves into the intricate tapestry of personal and familial identity. The exhibition invites viewers to explore the artist's life, unfolding within a space that transcends the physical boundaries of a studio and extends to the very core of his being. Here, collected personal items and cherished mementos from loved ones are transformed through the artist’s unique lens, weaving a compelling new narrative that bridges past, present, and future.
