Javier Carro Temboury
(b. 1997)
Lives and works in Paris
A sculptor who repurposes found objects, particularly ceramics, to explore transformation, material history, and cultural identity.
His process begins with the careful selection of discarded items, which he irreversibly alters, challenging their original function and meaning. His works often reflect on the act of containment—both physical and symbolic—while incorporating ornamental elements, social connotations, and public participation.
Whether dissecting everyday vessels in Intercontainers (2022) or fossilizing shared moments in Café Transversal (2025), Carro Temboury constructs dynamic systems in which the process methodologies shape the final work.
His practice has an actively site-specific aspect, leading him to recently carry out projects at MAMC+ Saint-Etienne; Centro de Arte de Alcobendas, Madrid; Palais d’Iéna, Paris; Villa Belleville, Paris; Galeria Campeche, Mexico City; Centre de Céramique Contemporaine, La Borne; Arniches 26, Madrid; Pech, Vienna; amongst others.
His work is represented by the galleries Arniches 26 in Madrid and Galeria Campeche in Mexico City.
“Javier Carro Temboury’s first step is research. At flea markets or through random encounters, he starts by collecting ceramic vessels and objects. Questioning their use and utility, bearing the marks of different eras and places, these objects speak, in subtle ways, of the people who held them, touched them, made them, but also of the notion of effort and labour.
He questions how, from a distance, we receive and understand the culture of others. His approach combines both a conceptual rigour and a sensitiveness towards touch and matter.”
